Torrevieja Holidays – Torrevieja Information
Placed about 50 km southwest of Alicante, Torrevieja is one of the most visited seaside destinations on Costa Blanca. In the past, it was just a small village with an ancient guard tower, from which the town derived its name (Torre = tower; Vieja = old).
Later on, the town became a center of the salt industry, which is still a major factor of the local economy. In recent years, Torrevieja Spain has grown into an important holiday resort due to a boom in the tourist sector. Today more than a half of its population are foreigners, with more than 10,000 British citizens and large German, Swedish, and Russian communities.
You can reach Torrevieja from Alicante following the national road N-332, passing Santa Pola. Approaching the town, you can see numerous salt lakes and huge salt hills (known as Las Salinas). In the surrounding area, Torrevieja Spain offers you long sandy beaches with a lot of sunny days during the whole year.
In the town, you can enjoy a walk along a beautiful seaside promenade with a number of restaurants, bars, and shopping spots. During you Torrevieja holidays, you can also visit other places of historic and cultural interest, such as the Town Church (Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción) placed on a charming town square, the Sea and Salt Museum (Museo del Mar y de la Sal) and the new modern Theatre.
